Just 24 miles from San Francisco, Lafayette’s mediterranean climate is popular with those seeking sunny weather free from the fog. Low on density, high on greenery, Lafayette offers great weather, excellent schools, and an easy commute to San Francisco thanks to the BART station in the town center.
Lafayette is comprised of many neighborhoods, each one fulfilling a different need. The Happy Valley neighborhood features rolling hillsides, meandering country roads and showplace estate homes on hillsides offering panoramic views of the valley. Two minutes out of town on Reliez Valley Road, the living takes on a country feel, with vineyards, cattle ranches, and horse pastures sharing the landscape with gated homes and large estates. Just south of downtown Lafayette is the Burton Valley area. This neighborhood is made up of more traditional single level ranch homes. The flat tree lined streets are indicative of neighborhood block parties and kids riding bikes to and from the homes of neighboring friends.
For outdoor recreation the Lafayette Reservoir is open year round for boating, fishing and hiking. A very popular spot for residents to walk the dog and get some exercise in a very scenic setting. In addition to the community parks and open spaces, the Lafayette-Moraga bike trail provides ample opportunity to enjoy the perfect weather for young and old alike.
As you might expect schools here are excellent. Elementary and Middle schools are part of the Lafayette School District. Acalanes High School, which is consistently rated one of the best in the state, is part of the Acalanes Union High School District.
